A Workforce Development Initiative by the Professional Remodeling Collective
How It Works: A Remodeling-Focused Registered Apprenticeship Program
Our Why
The remodeling industry isn’t like other trades—it’s personal. Every project tells a story, every job site is someone’s home or business, and every interaction reflects the human side of our work. The Professional Remodeling Collective believes the future of this industry lies in thoughtful, individualized training that blends craftsmanship with communication, professionalism, and customer care.
Program Overview
What is the Collective's Registered Apprenticeship Program?
A structured, flexible training model built for remodeling—designed by remodelers, for remodelers. The Collective is the multi-employer sponsor, providing minimal standards in core competencies, pay scale, and continuing education (CEU) requirements, while allowing employers to customize and grow from that base.
How does it work?
- Employers enroll in the Collective’s apprenticeship program. Currently this is a member only program. Join now!
- Each apprentice is matched 1:1 with a trainer (journeyman).
- Employers follow the minimum program standards but can:
- Pay more than the published scale
- Add competencies or unique skills
- Apprentices complete 144 hours of CEU per apprentice year, including online human-centric customer service training and leadership training provided by the Collective through RemodelED.
- Employers benefit from a clear recruiting framework, defined onboarding, and tax credits (where available by state)
- Past experience counts: Apprentices can receive credit toward their program for relevant experience, allowing for faster advancement and individualized learning paths.
Why It Matters
- Direct response to industry need: The Collective serves on the Remodeling Futures Steering Committee of the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies, whose recent report confirms a growing labor gap in remodeling-specific skilled trades.
- A powerful tool for our members: Whether you’re a small team or large firm, this program helps you:
- Recruit talent with confidence
- Provide professional onboarding experience
- Clearly define pay scale and skill development
- Invest in the future: No matter how small or big your company is, your commitment is an investment in the future. Help shape the next generation of remodelers who are not just technically skilled—but excellent team players, communicators, and professionals.
