Field Training: Collaborative Skills – What Did They Say? Decoding Nonverbal Communication 2024

Field Training: Collaborative Skills – What Did They Say? Decoding Nonverbal Communication 2024

Field Training: Collaborative Skills – What Did They Say? Decoding Nonverbal Communication sponsored by KR-HR and Nucleus Learning.  Attendees will receive 1.5 CEU's and a certificate of completion.
Class will be taught by Karen Hughey.

This field training includes:

  1. A “Putting it Into Action” post-training activity for participants to complete and use for discussion with #2.
  2. A Manager’s post-training coaching guide to increase the transfer of learning effectiveness that results in behavior and performance enhancements.

Nonverbal communication refers to the transmission of information, feelings, or intentions without the use of words. It encompasses various forms of communication that do not rely on language, such as facial expressions, body language, gestures, tone of voice, and other nonverbal cues. Nonverbal communication is important for several reasons:
  1. Complementary to Verbal Communication: Nonverbal cues often complement and enhance verbal communication. They provide additional context, emotional depth, and clarity to spoken or written messages. For example, a smile while saying "thank you" conveys sincerity and warmth.
  2. Expressing Emotions: Nonverbal cues are a primary means of expressing emotions. Facial expressions, for instance, can communicate happiness, anger, sadness, or surprise. Understanding these cues helps in grasping the emotional context of a conversation.
  3. Conveying Attitudes and Intentions: Nonverbal cues can reveal a person's attitudes and intentions. Posture, gestures, and eye contact can indicate confidence, attentiveness, openness, or defensiveness.
  4. Interpreting Ambiguities: In situations where verbal communication is ambiguous or contradictory, nonverbal cues often clarify the intended message. They help listeners make sense of what is being said.
  5. Building Relationships: Nonverbal communication is vital for building and maintaining positive relationships. It fosters rapport, trust, and mutual understanding. For instance, active listening through nonverbal cues demonstrates respect and empathy.
  6. Detecting Deception: Nonverbal cues can be critical in detecting deception. Inconsistencies between verbal and nonverbal signals may indicate dishonesty.

More than 93% of communication is conveyed through tone, inflection, and gestures, highlights the significance of nonverbal communication. Not being aware of one's own nonverbal communication or failing to recognize nonverbal cues from others can lead to communication failures and misunderstandings.

In this field training on decoding nonverbal communication, participants are likely to learn how to recognize and interpret nonverbal cues effectively. This knowledge can improve their overall communication skills, helping them avoid miscommunication, respond appropriately to emotional cues, and build better relationships both in personal and professional settings. Understanding nonverbal communication is a valuable skill for anyone seeking to be a more effective communicator and collaborator.
